Triple Crown, Elks Run Teams Win Metropolitan Interclub Challenge

Jim Volpenhein fired a 2-under-par 69 to lead the Triple Crown Country Club team to a 4-stroke win over Elks Run Golf Club at the fourth annual Metropolitan Interclub Challenge on Tuesday at Elks Run.

 

Playing under collegiate scoring rules that use four of the best scores among five-player teams in stroke play scratch competition, Triple Crown came in at 297.

 

In the Senior Interclub Challenge, Elks Run totaled 304 to defeat runner-up Beckett Ridge Country Club by seven strokes.  Chris Hall shot 73 to lead the team.  Medalist honors went to Gordon Willins of Harmon Golf Club, who shot a 1-under 70.
